Looking for a few ways to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays? There are all sorts of things taking place in the North East this July and August, and we’ve put together a list of the highlights! Read on for some inspiration…
The Plotter’s Forest at Raby Castle
The Plotter’s Forest is open every single day and is full of adventurous fun for little ones! The playground is nestled within the Castle’s Christmas Tree plantation, where kids and families can ‘climb, slide and jump to their heart’s content’!
There is plenty of coffee and cake to go around for parents at the Plotters’ Pantry, and a designated toddler area for small ones next door.
Tickets give you up to 2 hours of playtime and access to the 200 acres of Deer Park at the Castle, where they hold adventure trails and family activities throughout the Summer Holidays.

Kynren
Described as ‘the UK’s must see spectacular outdoor live action show’, Kynren takes guests on a ‘spellbinding journey through two thousand years of history, myths and legends as we join young Arthur on his epic quest’.
The show runs through several periods of British history, from Boudicca’s battles with the Romans, to two world wars via Vikings, Tudors, and the fate of Charles I.

Adventure Valley
Adventure Valley in Durham has opened four new attractions for kids! The new activities include a pony express, a 3D net climb, a train ride, and a Tornado Aqua Blaster! They also have a Runaway Ranch which includes a giant slide, inflatable rings, and zip-lines.
As well as plenty of action-packed play, they also have some cute animals for kids to say hello to including an aviary, a donkey, rabbits, guinea pigs and a goat mountain.

Not only this, but their 18-hole themed adventure golf is open every day from 10am until 4:15pm.

Sunderland BID Summer Activities
Sunderland Summer in the City 25t July – 4th September
Sunderland BID have put together a range of activities over the summer for kids and families to enjoy! There will be jugglers and stilt walkers at Sunniside Quarter, and all kinds of fantastical characters including fairies, princesses, and clowns!
You can also dance along to live music from Steel Drum performers on Low Row and watch some aerial acrobatics and circus performances on High Street West.
Roller Rink at Keel Square, Sunderland, 22nd July – 4th September
Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council have worked together to bring a fantastic Roller Rink to Keel Square this summer! The rink will be under a giant marquee and have a live DJ spinning tracks from the 80s, 90s and beyond.
The rink will be open 11am – 8pm, with tickets costing £10 for adults, £8 for 5–17-year-olds, £4 for under fours and £28 for a family ticket!

Ping Pong Parlour at the Bridges
The Bridges’ pop-up Ping Pong Parlour has returned after two years! It is open to use every day from 10am to 4pm and 12pm to 4pm on Sundays for free, with people of all ages being encouraged to take part.

NE1’s Summer in the City
NE1 is known for putting on some great Summer in the City activities, and this year is no different!
Their summer programme this year kicks off with their Screen on the Green, which returned on the 27th June with a packed schedule of internal sport, from Wimbledon and the Women’s European Football Championships – so why not take your little sport lovers to watch some matches on the big screen?
