1. Where did you first hear about Thirteen Homes and Shared Ownership?
We were already familiar with Thirteen Homes, as my partner’s mother was a tenant with the organisation. However, we became more aware of the shared ownership scheme while researching our home-buying options. As we explored property websites to better understand affordability and determine how much we needed to save, we came across shared ownership opportunities and began looking into them in more detail. When we subsequently discovered the shared ownership developments featured on the Thirteen Homes website, we were particularly encouraged by the range of properties available and the clear pathway the scheme offered towards homeownership. This prompted us to explore the option more seriously as a realistic and attainable step onto the property ladder.
2. What attracted you to Shared Ownership?
What particularly attracted us to Shared Ownership was the accessibility it offers, especially as first-time buyers who have not previously rented. As this would be our first home, we were keen to find an option that was both financially manageable and sustainable long term. The requirement of only a 5% deposit on the share being purchased significantly reduced the initial financial barrier, making homeownership feel far more attainable within a realistic timeframe. We also see Shared Ownership as an excellent and practical way to step onto the property ladder. It provides the security and stability of owning our own home from the outset, while offering the opportunity to increase our share over time. Overall, it presents a structured and responsible route into homeownership that aligns well with our current circumstances and future aspirations.
3. How did you find the process of buying through Shared Ownership?
Overall, we found the Shared Ownership process to be positive, although it was longer than we initially anticipated. We had originally reserved a different property; however, the mortgage lender we were using at the time was not one the developer had previously worked with, which led to delays and ultimately meant we needed to reconsider our options.
After changing plots, the process became far more straightforward and progressed smoothly. Communication was clear, and expectations were well outlined at each stage. We also felt well supported throughout, as we were able to approach our Sales Representative, Fay, with any questions or concerns. She was approachable, responsive, and consistently helpful, which gave us reassurance and confidence as we moved towards completion.
4. What part of your home instantly felt the most “you”?
What instantly felt most “us” about the home was the sense of potential it offered. From the moment we viewed it, we could clearly envision how we would personalise the space and truly make it our own. Rather than focusing solely on its current presentation, we were drawn to the opportunity it provided to reflect our style, preferences, and future plans. We fell in love with the possibilities, the ability to shape each room over time and create a home that feels authentic to us. That sense of potential made it feel less like just a property and more like the beginning of a space we could grow into and take pride in.
5. What’s the first home project you’re excited to tackle next?
The first project we’re particularly excited to undertake is transforming the back garden into a relaxing and inviting space for the summer months. We see it as a natural extension of our home, somewhere we can unwind, host family and, and fully enjoy the warmer weather. Creating a calm and welcoming outdoor area is something we’re genuinely looking forward to.
More broadly, we are excited to add our own personal touch throughout the entire house. From carefully chosen décor to thoughtful design details, we look forward to gradually shaping each room so that it truly reflects our style and personality. Making the space our own, both inside and out, is what makes this next chapter especially meaningful for us.
